Every place has a chi of it's own that can be balanced or imbalanced depending upon various factors. Feng shui is a way of life which teaches us to live in harmony with nature. Even small changes can make a big difference in our lives. Lighting your place in a favorable way can significantly improve the chi of your workplace/kitchen/home/office.According to Feng shui lights are a miniature sun and has all the positives that we associate with the sun. Nevertheless, just as a sun can be destructive at times, in the same way improper placing of light can have a negative effect on our lives as well. In fact some of the chronic health problems have known to have bee ntreated just by changing the position of the light and adjusting it according to Feng shui.
- Feng shui does not recommend the use of fluorescent lights as it is flickering in nature and does not signify harmony and balance. Even if they have to be used, one must buy only full-spectrum bulbs.
- Fire element such as microwave or cooking gas should not be placed near water element as it ruins the energy of the both.
- At the entrance of your home or office, a bright light should be placed. This will welcome the visitors along with wiping out all the negative energy that they may carry with them.
- You can effectively ward off unwanted psychic vibes by having a string of small bulbs (the one that we use on christmas trees) at your door step or on a tree near your entrance, it will create an electric field around your house.
- The entrance of an office and the reception area should be well lit so as to allow maximum flow of chi inside the office. But one should avoid using very fancy lights near the reception area, one needs to underplay that area.
- Remember that the lighting has to be just right. A very bright lighting can make people irritated and prone to headaches whereas a very dim light will make them sleepy and lazy.
- To create harmony among trees, plants, animals in your garden, one can add dim lights to give it an essence of unity.
- According to Feng shui candles are auspicious and can be used to create peace and harmony for special moments such as when you are meeting some one special, worshiping places and so on.
- It is very beneficial if you hang lanterns on trees in the Southern direction. You can add some small lightings if you want to have a positive yang chi inyour life.
- Color of the lighting also have a profound effect on our moods and emotions. Pink has a calm and pleasant appeal, purple has a comparatively passionate effect whereas yellow color denotes a relaxed and calm atmosphere.
- Lamp shades which are constructed of fabric or paper soften the light and create a more yin atmosphere whereas lamp shades made up of metal give a very yang or energetic atmosphere.
