Lighting is the best way in which one can add grace and drama to a place. Gone are the days when lighting was used as an essential; it has become a luxury now. We no longer add lighting just for the sake of adding visibility. Somtimes tattoos are harmful for health. It can make a big difference to our interior. More than five centuries back, Desiderius Erasmus said "Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself." What he said then, is equally true even now.

Living Room Lighting

Your living room should have a right mix of comfort and elegance. Apart from choosing the right type of furniture and placing them at the right spot, one also needs to highlight them with the right kind of lighting. Accent lighting will not work best for all kinds of living rooms. If you go step by step, you may be better able to complete the task with full satisfaction whereas moving in a haphazard way will not lead you anywhere.

  • The first and foremost thing for you to do is to observe all kinds of activities that occur there. Do you use it for watching TV, studying, family get togethers, sleeping etc.
  • If you have a TV or a video game in your living room, general lighting will work best for you.
  • You may also like to have task lighting because you may like to do reading or sewing in your home.
  • Also, include accent lighting in your living room plan for highlighting your paintings and other art such as sculpture.
  • Every time, you may not like to work under harsh lights. Dimming controls come handy for adjusting the lighting level in your living room.
  • One can also experiment with Wall sconces as they can be used to highlight any corner of the room.
  • Recessed downlights can be used to enhance the beauty of your fireplace and to obtain a grazing effect.
  • Halogen lights can also be used to focus attention on specific areas such as a painting.
  • Low-voltage disk lights are fitted with Xenon bulbs and gives out a brilliant white colored glow that is very eye catching.
  • A chandelier can also be hung to create a dramatic effect in the living room. But care must be taken thet it is contemporary and not too heavy or gaudy.
  • Using a ceiling medallion for hanging a chandelier or a center light is a very good option.
  • Mirrors are a goods option as they reflect light apart from looking great on a wall.
  • Do not overdo with lighting. You do not have to have very possible type of lighting at one place. After all, you do not want your living room to look like a super market or do you?

Lighting has always been with us, paradoxically, like our own shadows and has helped perform our work more easily, made us feel comfortable and relaxed to say the least. In fact, our own eyes desert us when there is no light. It can change our lives like no other decorative article.
